Hello everyone!
Our next walk is this Sunday to Offa's Dyke. It's a lovely walk along the ridge bordering Wales and England, stand either side
and be in both countries at the same time! We're going by minibus so places are very limited, let us know as soon as possible if you want to go.
Upcoming walks and socials:
- Sunday 1st November - Offa's Dyke
- Thursday 5th November - Bonfire Night on the Beach
- Sunday 8th November - Weobley Castle (Gower)
- Tuesday 10th November - Laser Zone
- Friday 13th -> Sunday 15th November - The Malverns and Cotswolds Weekend
Next week we'll start sign up for Weobley Castle and our weekend away to the Malverns (£35). We're staying in nice accommodation this time, all you'll need is a sleeping bag, there are kitchen and shower facilities.
This Wednesday 28/10 is our first year rep elections, if its your first year in the hiking club you are encouraged to stand for a first year rep position. Two of these will be elected to join the committee and help run the club - don't worry we won't give you too much to do! First year reps are elected by the rest of the club, you will need to give a short speech explaining why we should vote for you. There is also an international rep position for one exchange student, both positions require you to be able to attend a weekly meeting to discuss the general running of the club. If you would like more detail please speak to a member of the committee.
Our first weekend away is Friday 16th -> Sunday 18th October, to the Peak District in Derbyshire, England. The Peaks national park has lovely rocky landscapes, and scenery. We will be staying in the "White Peak" area in a camping barn in Middleton-by-Youlgrave, near Bakewell, You will need a sleeping bag, roll mat, lots of warm clothes, hiking gear and some food, those going will get a more detailed email soon. We have a few places left so let us know as soon as possible if you would like to come, we can also start up a reserve list in case anyone drops out, it costs £30 (£15 deposit). You can view photographs from previous Peak District weekend aways here, we are staying in the same accommodation as 2007/08. Weekends away are always great fun and good way to get to know each other.
To become a member of our hiking club you need to join the athletic union first.
If you are unsure about how to join the AU you can follow this link:
http://www.suau.co.uk/membership/
You need to follow the instructions, upload a photo of yourself, and when it is
finalised you will get a page telling you to print it. Print it out and join the
queue at Fresher's fayre. They will write your AU number on the paper then you can go to the
collection point and pick up your card.
If you miss out tomorrow you can still join the AU at a later date, probably by
collecting it from the AU office. Don't forget you can join us anytime of the year.
Fresher's Fair is approaching once again and will take place on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th of September.
To join us you have to become a member of the AU (Athletic Union) first which you can do during Fresher's fair. If you need any help with this come and see us and we can tell you exactly what to do :). After joining the AU you can join us during Fresher's fair or if you miss that, after Fresher's week you can find us every Wednesday and Friday 12.30-1.30pm in JC's quiet side, Fulton House.
After becoming a member you can sign up for whichever walks you fancy, and attend our fun socials too. We have a range of easier and harder walks across the year, around Wales and England.
