Suggested Project Ideas
- Peer Review Page - an extention to the paste bin which would allow users to add a comment to individual lines of the bin, a small icon next to the line number could indeicate that there was a comment, and it could appear in a floating div popup (eg using overlib.js) when the mouse hovered over it.
- Room usage logger - write some scripts to count how many of the desktop machines are in use, and how many dhcp leases are currently active (ie laptop usage), plot those numbers in cacti so we get a pretty graph.
- Printing quotas - One way to deal with the problem of users that get a little overzealous with their printing, impliment hard quota limits (as im sure cups will let you) but use the paypal api to allow the users to buy an extention. that way if they really do need to do that bit of extra printing there is a way out for them.
- Web-based admin interface - adding members, etc
- Games Server Notifier - Essentially, a Jabber 'user' that is controlled by the GameServer. When someone (anyone) is playing a game, the user is online. When no-one's playing a game, the user is offline. User's status message could change to reflect the games currently being played. Would probably be best to tie in with the gameserver auth system.
- AJAX Panorama Viewer - A viewer for panoramas useing AJAX, ala google maps. Implement simular features to zoomify, allow 360 degre panoramas
- Admin request ticket system - At the moment problems and requests from the users just go to the admin mail list, where several, or none of its members deal with it and respond. As a suggestion for being more organised, how about replacing the list with s ticketing system. emails to the admin address, or webform entries, can be entered into a database, which will send a summary email to the admin members containing a link they can follow back where they can enter a response into the database. the database system can then email the response back to the user, and log who and when it was done. We then have visibility of who/when/what was done about these requests. A more advanced version may allow the admin to email back the response, with some kind of identifying subject line or header, to automatically log it and close the ticket.
- SUCS Library Web Interface - The current online library catalogue at http://sucs.org/services/library.php could do with a facelift. Using the Amazon web services API it should be possible to obtain more detailed information on each book (e.g. a cover picture) to create a nicer interface which encourages members to use the library service more often.
- Offline signup script - The existing off-line sign up scripts allows us to sell accounts to people even when we dont have internet access right there at the time, this needs a small extension so that we can also give these slips to people that are renewing. admin members then need only carry a few of these slips around with them to be able to collect monies.

- Paste Bin - A script that lets members paste chunks of text/html into a page and give a short reference url to others to read. very helpful when helping to debug peoples code etc.
- Short URL - A script to provide short urls for users, see the likes of http://www.tinyurl.com for examples.
