Business Plan
On Mondays and Tuesdays for the last four weeks, I've been on a Business Planning course at a local enterprise agency, with a view to "relaunching" Big Red Design when I come off Incapacity Benefit. This culminated in a meeting today with someone I had not met so far, so that she would see the business plan I had prepared during the course with "fresh eyes".
She was very positive about my business plan and the process has given me more confidence in my ability to make a success of my business. One thing creating the business plan really opened my eyes to is how utterly dire the majority of web designers locally seem to be. None of the sites I looked at even met the HTML standards, let alone accessibility guidelines. In one case, I found a web designer's site that only worked in Internet Explorer!
So, once I'm off benefit, "all" I have to do is find some customers. That might not be all that hard though if I start by contacting people whose websites don't actually work and offer to fix them for them.
