Excess Packaging

On Monday, I took delivery of a 2GB SD Card from Scan. I was absolutely gobsmacked at how much packaging was used, so I've written to them:

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to draw to your attention the ridiculous excess of bubble-wrap used on my most recent order. The item being delivered - a 2GB SD Card - has no moving parts and was supplied in a rigid plastic case. It didn't need extra protection.

Knowing what would be in the order, I took photos before and after opening:

The card in its case, the delivery note and the invoice came to 16g. The bubble-wrap weighed 46g and the CityLink bag it was delivered in (which I note is designed to hold up to 5kg) was a further 30g.

If this is an indication of your usual packaging methods, you must be wasting a lot of money on unnecessary packaging, which a lot of people no doubt throw away, increasing the volume of land-fill waste.

Please consider changing your packaging policy to reduce unnecessary waste, not only saving your company money but also making you more environmentally friendly.

Yours faithfully,

Denis Walker

I agree, that amount of packaging is truly insane!

Unless they don't trust CityLink of course...

Wow, that's a lot of excess! Reminds me of when Kate ordered a wall calendar online and it arrives in a huge office supplies box.

Good on you for complaining :-)

Well done!
More of these letters need to go to more companies!
