My Truth Means Nothing

The title of this post is taken from Don DeLillo's 'White Noise' and kinda sums up my worldview at the moment. It seems that what I think is pretty much irrelevant to most of my problems and the people around me. I hate myself, other people still seem to like me. I think I'm desperately unattractive and dress incredibly badly, other people seem to think the opposite. I think I am fundamentally a good person, other people disagree. I think that the world is a black and white place filled with choices that are either right or wrong, other people tell me it's grey and that right and wrong are all relative.

Heinrich's right. What good is my truth? My truth means nothing.

Nothing means anything unless you say so. That's how I like to look at it. "Truth" is just a convenient way to convince people that something exists.

Sure it wouldn't hurt for you to wear a few loud shirts but other then that I don't see a problem in your dress sense. : )

Why is it necessary though to care what others think or assume what they say is true? the people who I loved most in life have told me 'I%u2019m a selfish, cheating, violent, alcoholic' if I accepted these things as true it would destroy my self esteem and everything I project myself to be, I know there people who have been told that I am these things with out meeting me and assume these things to be fact. Do I consider their opinion of course, but opinions are just that, opinions. They are the conclusions that have been made by following one line of logic everyone has bias, everyone has there axe to grind, everybody has limited information to form there opinion on.

To say 'your truth means nothing' ignores the big picture 'everybody%u2019s truth means nothing' truth is truth as long as it is the majority opinion. For example. At the moment I know that the earth has two moons (one of which was only discovered recently). According to a majority of the population (including you up to about a second ago) and texts on the subject the truth (and undeniable fact) is that the earth had one moon. Now suppose that I%u2019m mistaken or that I%u2019ve just lied to you. (Ooh opinion is dangerous!)

So what can we conclude from this? TRUTH DOSEN'T EXIST! Or that the ones personal truth is the only one that maters because it the only one you can account for that the logic is sound. But it shouldn't be set in stone, because it is simply
What your worldview has told you so far.

I apologise for the length of this response I have a philosophy exam tomorrow morning and hence have been working myself up in to a ranting mind set all day, and just thought I%u2019d let loose on your bog. I%u2019m curious to know though what your rant is about specifically though, but I understand if you don't feel like sharing.
