Vauxhall Cavalier SRI

January 2004

After Little Tom being written off in a nasty car accident. I purchased a G Reg Cavalier SRI, it had 141k on it, and it cost me £350 from ebay. It's an old car an I knew it would need bits of work doing and probably a general tidying up, but I needed to learn more about cars and I was quite content with doing that.

You've been framed

After a few days of driving the car, I realise a rather funny smell of Petrol, not quite sure why but I could smell it when I first picked up the car, but the Guy who I had collected it off, had just filled it with Petrol, so for that reason I ignored it and thought maybe he spilt a little. After a while the smell got quite bad, and it was considerably worse after I filled the 60litre tank with Petrol. Cutting a long story short - the fuel tank was rotten and there was also some leaky hoses in the engine that needed sorting...Garage sorted the fuel tank and I sorted the hoses out. So that cost me a good £200. Obviously not impressed but as I had paid cash for the car, Guess what E-bay don't cover you for it, which I will note this as I feel approriate - its complete and utter pile of shit.

More Shit

Then one morning at 1:30AM I was rudely awoken by two police officers. They had come to tell me that some pricks from Portmead (yes that shit hole) - had been caught trying to get into my car and that they had bent the door back and damaged the locks. Mind you I wish they could have started the engine - there was no petrol in the car :D

Anyway the pricks get charged, Anyway lock the car dead-lock it, do you think I can open it.....NO....cause the fsck whits had damaged it so bad, managed with a bit of nudging to finally get it open but could only lock it from the passenger side. From there I park the car up and plan to get things sorted an alarm, a new set of locks, and finally manage to get the door into a reasonable shape, this was the Thursday night/Friday Morning

Lets sort the Radiator out

On the saturday, Kevin, Liz and I head to Llansamlet to have a poke around the scrapyards, and I decide to fix that leaky radiator of mine and managed to get a Radiator for a whopping £20 for E + J Auto Salvage on Swansea Enterprise Park, they are a really good scrapies - and I personally recommend them, you have to take the stuff off the cars yourself, but personally thats what I want, I'm not a pickup spares kinda guy!!!!! One Radiator successfully installed.

Have I had too much too drink?

No, its not a drink driving offense, I'm not totally dull. Get in from a meal with work, had a few of the old wines. Walking up my street and think, "My car was parked there earlier, or did I have to many glasses of the grape juice?", walk into the house and speak to my housemate.

Me: Have I had too much wine or is my car not parked in the street?

Housemate: It was there earlier its definately gone

Me: OH FFS!!!

Yes some other pricks, probably from some other scummy area of Swansea, lets face it theres plenty to choose from :), have stolen my car, ring the police, and I am awake for sometime, cause I am absolutely tamping

Llan...... where?

Well I get a call later the following day to say its been founding Llandielo, for those of you who don't know where it is thats fine, I had to get a map out, If you know Ammanford, its up past there, and if you don't know that is - get on the M4, drive to the end of the M4, no not the London end, the South Wales end, and turn right and keep following the road that goes past loads of little villages and shit and thats Ammanford.

Insurance Companies, Police, Garages

Yes they all take ages to do anything, finally get the car to a garage down in Swansea, and after a few days (about 10) of back and forth, ringing one, ringing the other, were waiting for this, were waiting for that, were waiting for them etc... We get the yeah, the Garage has recommended we write the car off :(.......So BYE BYE Mr Vauxhall Cavalier, it was nice knowing you. Now all I have to do is collect my stuff from the Vehicle, Glad I kept that shit stereo that doesn't work :)

My Concluding Remarks

The Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0 SRi, was a really nice car to drive, it was very quick and was the quickest car I have driven so far, it was nice on the motorway, and although I believe, this particular example had been poorly taken care of, to start the fuel tank was rotten. I reckon he had been parked in a ditch for sometime :(, there was evidence of damp in the boot, and rust at the rear at the car, meanwhile the front end didn't seem to experience this same problem. The interior was really nice and was in really good condition for the age, the Bucket seats in the SRi are very comfortable. The car felt a lot nicer to drive that my little 1.1 106 Peugeot and the 1.9d Peugeot I had before that, it didn't feel like you were pushing your luck when put your foot down. I will always remember the trip to Bristol with my folks, because we all said it was quick comfortable.

I would buy another Cavalier, and I am in the market for one right now, their good solid cars, and there is plenty of spares. It might not been the end of this one quite yet, but I doubt the insurance company will cough up the amount to repair him, maybe I will buy this one back to use as spares I do not know

Thanks

I think at this point I should thank Ryan my housemate, Kevin and Liz, Nikki and here brother Mike, for their help with the car because theres been many incidents with this car, and they have all helped out. Lets hope the next one doesn't cause as much trouble

Poor bugger

Went to see the poor bugger today, it looks like they broke his wing mirror and they stole the parcel shelf and my 6 x 9 speakers :(... They didn't touch my music cd's, so it looks like they don't like my taste in music :p, still waiting for the insurance to say "DEFINATELY ITS BEING WRITTEN OFF" which is a pain, tho I do have another car lined up so fingers crossed ;)
