"whereas a blog post is somehow more important than the comments attached to it."

Given the quality of most blog comments, isn't treating the post itself as more important than the comments a Good Thing? Or is the plan to bring the quality of the main post down to the level of the average blog comment?

I like this post, for linking to the P-A comic and for neatly capturing what twitter's used for (at least among friends, it gets a bit different if you're a celebrity or a big-name in some field I think) - nice one :)

That's exactly what it seems like to me - like I said in my letter, it renders the DPA moot. He also apparently ignored my concerns about physical transport of data - the government has repeatedly demonstrated its incompetence in these matters. IMO the "safeguards" he talks about would have to address this part but he doesn't seem to have thought about it or much care, which makes me trust the government even less.

Ok, he just described a load of checks and balances (each order has to go through both houses?! What exactly are they planning on using this for??)... but am I being stupid or does this blatantly refute the EU data protection laws - private data can be passed on only with the target's permission, or if they're suspected of criminal activities?

Anyhow, I like the 'should you wish to do so' - suggesting it would've been understandable to keep you in the dark :P Jack Straw is such a authoritarian bastard

I don't think complying with an evil court order is evil unless you can afford to appeal and don't. So I fail to see the irony here.

"Google values our users' privacy first and foremost. Trust is the basis of everything we do, so we want you to be familiar and comfortable with the integrity and care we give your personal data"

I found it ironic that soon after being ordered to give up peoples personal data google posted this blog:

Ditto that for my Spanish - I just found out this morning I got a 2:1, which although i'm pleased with, i can't help feeling my language skills (or lack of same) pulled me down.
