Looking south from the road bridge south of Bridgwater station in Somerset. The double track Great Western mainline continues south from here towards Taunton, where it meets the West of England Main Line, and then on to Exeter (where the South West Main Line meets), Plymouth and Penzance.
Eastover sidings, at the far (north) end of the station only have a connection to the northbound (right in this view) line. The points here are the first place southbound services can access the southbound track. Underneath the vegetation at the bottom of this photograph is a short stretch of (now disconnected) line giving access to a now disused south-facing bay platform at the station, adjacent to the present northbound track, the points would also presumably have been traversed by trains departing from this platform to access the southbound line.
