The entrance to the top (Clifton) station of the Clifton Rocks Railway, a long disused funicular railway located entirely in a tunnel between the Clifton and Hotwells areas of Bristol. The railway is currently being restored by volunteers. The photograph was taken during the Bristol Open Doors day, where many buildings that are not normally open to the public open their doors for a single weekend. The Clifton Rocks Railway was one of the most popular attractions, hence the queue!
The bricked up access behind the flag shows that there was originally a second entrance from the street.
