The southern end of Platform 2 at Kennington tube station, this platform is served by southbound trains on the Charing Cross branch of the Northern Line, which merges with the Bank branch a short distance south of the station.
Off peak, around half the trains arriving at this platform terminate and passengers must cross to platform 4 to continue their southbound journey on a Bank branch train. The reason for this is there is a reversing loop south of the staiton, accessible only from the Charing Cross branch, that leads only to the northbound Charing Cross branch platform - see this excellent 3D diagram. The shunt signal visible on the lefthand tunnel wall controls the access to the loop.

Larger, higher quality copies of my photos are available, click here for details.
If you wish to use this, or any other of my photographs, under a different license see my relicensing policy.
Feedback on my pictures is always welcome.
