The southern end of Platform 4 at Kennington tube station, this platform is served by southbound trains on the Bankbranch of the Northern Line, which merges with the Charing Cross branch a short distance south of the station.
Although about a quarter of southbound services terminate at Kennington, almost all of these are Charing Cross branch trains.
The reason for this is there is a reversing loop south of the staiton, accessible only from the Charing Cross branch, that leads only to the northbound Charing Cross branch platform. Trains can reverse from the Bank branch, but as this involves a reversing siding it is less preferable. See this excellent 3D diagram.
