First Great Western Class 143 DMUs 143621 and 143620 arrive into Severn Tunnel Junction station / gorsaf Cyffordd Twnel Hafren in Rogiet, South Wales from the east with a Cardiff Central to Taunton stopping service.
The train departs Bristol Temple Meads as the 16:55, one of the two busiest evening commuter services from the station. On this particular Monday it got as far as Parson Street, a suburban station on the southern edge of Bristol, without incident. However on departure from the station 143621 in the lead was unable to take power. After nothing on the fault checklist, including uncoupling and recoupling the units, worked there was no option but to set back into Temple Meads. All the passengers were transfered onto the normally equally busy 17:25 (which was held until just after 17:30), which was also formed of two Class 143 units. The lead unit on this service suffered exactly the same problem at Weston Milton - although fortunately on this occasion turning everything off and then back on again did the trick!
