Looking east from the footbridge at Severn Tunnel Junction station / gorsaf Cyffordd Twnnel Hafren in Rogiet, South Wales.
From right to left the lines visible are:
- Down relief line (extreme right), not accessible to trains comming from the Severn Tunnel and not adjacent to a platform at the station.
- Down main line. Served by westbound trains from Gloucester and the Severn Tunnel; platform 1 at the station. Services from the tunnel cross over the up line from left to right in the centre-right of the image.
- Up Gloucester line (closest to signal). This line, platform 2 at the station, is used by trains heading easbound towards Gloucester. Although trains can access the Gloucester line from platform 3 at the station (curved track just beyond the signal) the state of the rails suggest this is not a common move.
- Down line from tunnel (crosses over up Gloucester). In the current track layout, all trains heading west through the tunnel cross the eastbound Up Gloucester here to join the down main and call/pass platform 1 at the station.
- Up line to London via Severn Tunnel, eastbound trains that have passed/called at platform 3 of the station (far left of photo, beneath green signal).
- Down tunnel line goods loop (beneath red signal on extreme left).
Note that the arch on the left of the picture is not the mouth of the Severn Tunnel, but a road bridge giving access to Caldicot station, ¾ mile from Severn Tunnel Junction and visible in the middle difference on the right of the picture.
