INFLATION COMES
DOWN TO 4.2%
Inflation fell to its lowest level for
three years, according to the latest
Retail Price Index figures.
The index shows that prices rose 0.1%
in March, leaving the annual rate at
4.2%, compared with 5.1% in February.
And the Government is predicting a fall
to 3.5% by the end of this month, which
would be the lowest since the 1960s.
Lower petrol prices offset increases in
vegetables, clothes, and cars in March.
Recent mortgage rate cuts and even
cheaper petrol will offset cigarette
tax and rates rises in April's index.
