that Nezar Hindawi, the man sought in
connection with the Heathrow bomb plot,
is still in Britain. See also p103-p105
Hindawi, who planted the device in the

later seen at a London hotel.
Commander George Churchill-Coleman,
head of the C13 anti-terror squad, said
it was thought unlikely that he would
have used a port or airport to flee.
Meanwhile, Heathrow security chiefs are
reviewing security to find out how the
bomb slipped through routine checks.

KINNOCK VICTORY
IN MILITANT FIGHT
Labour leader Neil Kinnock has won the
latest round in his fight to rid his
Party of leading Liverpool Militants.
The national executive voted 18-4 to
agree rule changes to thwart a repeat
of tPe 'Hard Left' walk-out which
blocked the expulsions last month.
The walk-out left the NEC without a
qkorum so it could not proceed with the
disciplinary hearings, but today's
meeting lowered the number necessary.
Mr Kinnock won another victory when the
executive refused to endorse Militant's
Pat Wall as candidate for Bradford Nth.

BOTHA TO FREE
PASS LAW PRISONERS
All blacks held under South Africa's
pass laws are to be freed immediately.
President PW Botha told parliament that
from next week no one would be charged
under the controversial laws.
An estimated 20 million arrests have
been made this century using the pass
laws, a bitterly resented measure which
restricts blacks' freedom of movement.
The government had previously promised
to scrap the laws by July 1 and replace
them with a non-racial urbanisation
policy, expected to be unveiled shortly

INFLATION COMES
DOWN TO 4.2%
Inflation fell to its lowest level for
three years, according to the latest
Retail Price Index figures.
The index shows that prices rose 0.1%
in March, leaving the annual rate at
4.2%, compared with 5.1% in February.
And the Government is predicting a fall
to 3.5% by the end of this month, which
would be tPe lowest since the 1960s.
Lower petrol prices offset increases in
vegetables, clothes, and cars in March.
Recent mortgage rate cuts and even
cheaper petrol will offset cigarette
tax and rates rises in April's index.
