Once he reaches the desert and O'Neill,
his attitudes are changed as he falls
under the spell of the simple nomadic
life.
But Sarrazin and O'Neill look a itule
like American tourists whilst leader
of the tribe Anthony Quinn plays his
character as a larger-than-life desert
Ali Baba.
He puts all the trimmings into futl
throttle with his booming voice,
commanding air and flourishing
gestures.

makes no demands on your intellect -
every last detail in the story ■s spelt
out for you.
The wide-angled shots of the ■ocation
(in Iran) and the expansive blue skies
are a delight.
The hundre s of extras populating
virtually very scene are just as
attention-gra bing as the main players.
The colourfully dressed nomads, noisy
camels and bleeting sheep give the film
a rich tapestry for its story.

CARAVAN
For those who think an Eastern film
should reflect the action of a Western,
Caravan has made allowances for you.
There's fighting action here and there,
on camel as well as horseback and a
massive showbown when Vosoughi finally
catches up with the caravan.
The love interest aspect of the story
has been sensibly played down.
As all-round entertainment, Caravan is
great. It does plob along but as a
Saturday afternoon film it does at
least keep you out of the cold!
