A £20,000 appeal has been launched to
raise funds to enable a special school
for deaf children in Britain to show
the rest of the world their teaching
techniques.
Staff at the Birkdale School at
Southport want to make two videos of
of what they say are "very successful"
methods. They are seeking help to pay
for the films which they say would be
the most up-to-date teaching aids
available in the world.
Manchester University has agreeb to pay
part of the filming costs and to carry
out the work but school staff still
have to find a further £20,000.

"Normal viewers turning to EARSH/T for

impression that we, the deaf, are an
apathetic, ineffectual group of people
with the exception of one or two
regular contributors, week in,week out.
The contents can only be described as a
"deafening silence".
"Where are those in our deaf society
who seek changes in education, signing

employment, etc ? It seems to me that
they are content to allow the various
organisations, run by hearing people,
