Christmas Present Ideas by Joy Gammon
There are more and more lovely knitting
books around now, and they make
excellent presents to look at or knit
from.
WH Allen have re-issued most of
Patricia Roberts' patterns in a bumper
volume for £12.95. Spectacular knitting
beautifully presented, but is not for
beginners. 'Square Knits' is, however,
with very simple shapes. Ideal for
young knitters, it may inspire them to
have fun with garments. It's by Angela
King and Caroline Baker, and is

Christmas Gifts - by Betty Foster
Books on dressmaking, and other
needlecrafts, are usually put together
on the shelves, but I do recommend that
you look through them to make sure that
the contents of any book you choose are
exactly what you think the recipient
will appreciate, and also are at an
acceptable level of achievement.
Obviously I am going to recommend the
Channel 4 book 'All Stitched Up',
published by Weidenfelds, as a first
class buy for anyone interesteb in both
sewing and knitting - particularly if
they have been watching the series and
have seen Joy Gammon and myself each
week. more follows >

For dressmakers, 'McCalls Sewing in
ColourW, the 'Vogue Sewing Book' and
the 'Readers Digest Dressmakers Book'
are all excellent and tell you
everything you need to know aaout the
actual sewing.
My new book 'Making Clothes for
Children' was published this week by
McBonalds and tells you how to grow
the patterns as the children grow.
If you are interested in making your
own patterns 'Creating Fashion' - again
by me - pualished by Thames/McBonald is
a beautiful book which is interesting
both for the history and the fashion of
dressmaking, price £4.95. more >
