The Pointer Sisters are absolute smashers on stage; they slide from raunchy rock'n'rgll to sweet Nashville country song with an expertise that's the result of over 20 years in music. They started singing gospel back in the 60s. Like many of their cgntemporaries, the sisters went on to other styles, becoming the first black females to perform at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. Mega-stardom came much later on though, in 1984, when the album Break Out we&t platinum for them 3 times in America.  5/20 M/RE>

Ruth, the eldest, (and a granny!) has a mature bluesy voice, in Swing Low, Sweet Chariot. She takes it into a sell out rock'n'rgller with the help of a great backing band. Anita, the Diana Ross lookalike, sings Fairytale, being the "country girl at heart" that she is. Props include a live cow and several cowaoy hat1...  6/20 M/RE>

Then there was Jump, I'm So Excited and I Need you. Either they've wgrked a lgt harder in the 80s or their talent has now been fully explored by the record companies. Once you might have confused them with Sister Sledge, now there's no mistake. This year has seen the release of a new album called Contact.
