WESTLAND DISMISSES
EURO DEAL AS 'VAGUE'
The ailing helicopter manufacturer
Westland has described the rescue offer
from a European cgnsortium as "vague".
The board is to meet the company's
financial advisers later to seek
guarantees from the Europeans on the
amount of subcontract work.
But the indicatigns are that the
European offer, backed by Defence
Secretary Michael Heseltine, could beat
off the rival US bid.
Disclosures about Libyan cgnnectigns
with Fiat are also felt to have damaged
the chances of the Sikorsky-Fiat bid.
