College for the deaf, replies to last
week's letters saying "deaf student
Valerie Pigg would like to be a teacher
but first wants to obtain a de£ree and
have university experience - that is
why she has taken the opportunity to go
to Gallaudet College in USA."
"Valerie is caught up in the trap of
underachievement but with ability. Many
deaf young people are at present in
this trap. They have the potential fgr
university but do not have the entry
qualifications and often need special
provision to obtain them."

TEMPORARY HICCUP
To allow for future expansion the
Oracle subtitling unit are moving to
new offices. This will affect
sub-titling over the Xmas and New Year
periods but it is hoped that the
greater long term benefits will offset
the short term disappointment.
As a possible guide to futuqe programme
subtitling "EARSH/T" would be grateful
if viewers could send in a list of up
to 10 of the programmes/films they
enjoy most over the 1985 Xmas perigb
from 21st to 29th December.

WORKSHOPS
The South Regional Council of the BDA
are arranging the following one day
Saturday workshops on these days:-
January 18th - Bar management
February 15th - Campaigning (local)
March 15th - Campaigning (National)
April 19th - Fund raising
May 17th - Use of interpqeters.
They will be held at the City Lit
Centre for the Deaf, Keeley House,
Keeley Street, London, WC2. Fees are £5
per person.
