POOR RISE IN USA
LEADING INDICATOR
The United States' leading indicator,
a key measure of future economic
activity, rose just 0.1% in November,
the Commerce Department has reported.
The rise was below expectations, with
most analysts forecasting a 0.2%-0.4%
increase, and was sharply down from
a revised October jump of 0.4%.
But the indicator would have shown
a 0.3% decline but for the big rise in
share prices during the month.
However, economists say the small rise
is in line with indications of further
sluggish growth in the economy in 1986.
