SUN SHINES ON
TECHN/LOGY BOOM
The "sunrise" high technology
industries more than doubled their
output in Scotland from 1979-84.
The Scottish Office said that 1984 was
the boom year for manufacturing in new
technology with a 25% leap, mainly due
to the data processing market.
The field accounted for 45,000 jobs,
more than 10% of all the manufacturing
employment north of the border.
It said the Scottish economy continued
to grow but prospects were bleaker fgr
the traditional heavier industries.
