LEADERSHIP
COURSE
The ability to think postively and use
the knowledge and experience of others
in both wgrk and leisure situatigns is
a great confidence booster.

important to young deaf people and fgr
some years now the Friends for Young
Deaf have been running leadership
courses which discover and emphasise
the different abilities and talents of
participants.
The next course will be at Birmingham
on February 14-16th. If you are between
15 and 25 and would like to discover if

VIEWER'S VEEW
Caroline Gambell writes:-
"While I sympathize with those deaf
people who have difficulties in reading
subtitles as they are I cannot agree
with John Wheeler.
It has been proved that reading
subtitles improves reading ability and
acquisition of vocabulary - I know mine
has improved. It puts language into
context, one can learn to connect
written words with happenings and
situations just as the hearing learn tg
connect the spoken word with what
occurs.
To simplify subtitles would prevent
proper understanding of situatigns."

VIEWER'S COMMENT
Barbara Andrews writes:-
"Am I alone in querying whether London
really needs the Proposed Deaf Cultuqal
Community Centre?
My own opinion is that the Centre would
be superfluous. The London deaf are
already amply provided with educatign,
welfare and social facilities.
If funding exists for such a place
would the money not be better spent
providing the rest of the country with
something like the same facilites
enjoyed by privileged Londoneru."
