REPAIRED PATHWAY
The 50,000 annual visitors to Dovedale
in the Peak National Park, should now
be able to keep their feet dry while
enjoying a walk through the dale.
The 600 metre stretch between Nabs
Spring and Milldale is the last sectign
of the 3 mile walk to be transformed
from a muddy track to sound path. The
whole project has been carried out over
the past five years by the Natignal
Park Council and the National Trust who
own the land. Much of the manual work
was undertaken by the British Trust fgr
Conservation Volunteers. more >

WEEKEND
WALK
A DAY IN THE LIFE: A COMMUTING CYCLIST!
Here are some hints on battling youq
way to work on a cycle, through the citz
from Keith Penfold who does it daily!
Get up, breakfast - you'll need a full
stomach - and don armour, in this case
elbow and knee-pads, crash hat, heavy
clothes, leather gloves and,of course,
my fluorescent jacket (the enemy have
got to see their target)!
I make sure the front and rear lights
work properly and I'm off to commence
the battle. more follows >

TO WORK ON A CYCLE ... How to survive
I ride slowly past parked cars,
watching out for the opening dogrs as
I pass - a favourite trick of the
'black knight' still suffering from
last night's banquet. Or the frazzled
parent remembering 101 things at once.
Then comes the 'Invincible one' (the
Volvo owner) his right indicatgr going
at the 'T' junction. I get ready to
jump on the pavement when he tuqns left
- Phew! lucky I did..

NEWS
TO WORK ON A BIKE - How to survive
The quiet is shattered by a lorry - the
driver perched up there with his Yorkie
bar ready to quash a cyclist fgr a joke
(sadistic humour). Beat him to the
roundabout and hope he goes another way
as his hard pneumatic wheels rear up on
the pavement.
Next to shatter the hush is the
'smooth one' - the salesman's Sierra,
which revs and slips the clutch at the
traffic lights. I manage to pip him
across the lights only to be cut-up
further along as he stops at the
newsagents. more >

TO WORK ON A BIKE - How To Suqvive
After those close encounters, it's
smooth pedalling all the rest of the
way to work.
There, I don another uniform, the
familiar black and yellow outfit of a
Traffic Warden. Who says the little man
never wins? Happy Parking!
