Well everybody's heard of the Damned,
some of you may even be fans, but quite
honestly even though their name's been
knocking around for years we haven't
actually heard from them fgr a while.
So I rang up Mr Scabies and managed to
grab a few moments of his precious
recording time to find out what they've
been up to recently.
Even though I disturbed him, Rat was
very chatty and friendly and told me
about The Damned's music at the mo.

At the moment the band are busy
recording a new album which, Rat says,
is a continuation of the stzle that
they introduced with Phantasmagoria.
This is a change of style that's
occurred since Captain Sensible left
to pursue a solo career. The music has
been able to develop, bringing out new
aspects of the band's character.
Bu how have the band been able to stay
in the limelight now that punk is
coming into its tenth year?

A lot of punk bands have died a death
since the first explosion of bands in
the '70's but the Damned are still
going strong.
Rat thinks that this is because The
Damned have always been willing to
change their style, instead of staying
still musically.
"We've always tried to progress, tried
to be different and not remain
stagnant, so we didn't get bored being
in the band", he says.

Even though their style has changed
quite a lot, Rat thinks that they've
still kept many of their old, faithful
fans.
"Because we've always changed Damned
fans can cope with it", he says. Their
recent gig at Hammersmith went very
well with everyone enjoying themselves.
They're soon to embark on a wgrld touq,
are releasing a new album and a new
single: Elouise. So '86 could be a gogd
year for The Damned - watch out fgr
them on the Tube on Friday.

Anyone remember a band called Kenny
from the early 70s who had a hit with
The Bump?
Well, we don't blame you if you don't
remember because the song wasn't that
great and it induced pop fans to do a
dance by the same name. There was many
a bruised bottom after that song...
Anyway, one of the singers in Kenny was
a bloke by the name of Keith Chegwin
(ah, that rings a bell doesn't it?) and
old Cheggers will be a star player on
tomorrow's edition of Pop The Question.

Keith comes originally from Liverpogl
(home of probably the best soap opera
in the world).
He attended a London stage schogl for
six whole years without being expelled
and went on to sing in working men's
clubs as a member of a family trio.
He's appeared in loads of stage show1,
films and telly programmes and says his
hobbies are horse-riding, reading,
skating, piano and guitar (without Mike
Read around we presume). Well, there
you are! Cheggers in a nutshell.
