Tomorrow at 9pm C4 presents the
British TV premiere of Raggedy Man.
Siisy Spacek stars in this absorbing
powerful drama in another strong
female role.
The film is directed by her real-
life husband, Jack Fisk, and he
elicits a suberb performance from
her.
Sissy Spacek was born in 1949 in
Texas, and studied acting at the
Actors Studio under Lee Strasber£.

In 1973 she starred in Badlands
as a disturbed 15-year-old on an
interstate crime spree with a
psychotic boyfriend.
In fact many of her roles in the
'70's seem to be as weird, creepy
teenagers in horror movies.
One of her best known roles was as
Carrie, made in 1976. She was
highly effective as a tormented high
school girl who lashes back at her
tormentors.

Even though Carrie gets even by
using telekinetic violence, Spacek
portrays her so sympathetically the
audience is able to understand and
even feel sorry for her.
In 1977 she made Welcome to LA and
Three Women. Three Women is a
fascinating daring film with two
leading female roles.
Spacek and Shelley Duvall play two
room-mates in a Palm Springs motel,
and subtly portray the interactign
between them.

in The Coalminer's Daughter.It+s a
musical biography of the country and
western singer Loretta Lynn.
Spacek shows remarkable emotional
range and superb acting skill as the
famous singer, in yet another
strong female rgle.
In 1983 she starred with Jack
Lemmon in Missing. In it she
plays the wife of a journalist who
goes missing in Central America.
