FORMER TRAINER JOHN OXLEY DIES
Former Newmarket trainer John Oxley has
died after a long illness.
Oxley, 55, began training in 1959 and
the following month sent out the first
of a string of big race winners when
Cutter won the Yorkshire Cup.
His sole Classic success was in 1964
when he saddled Sir Foster Robinson's
Homeward Bound to win the Epsom Oaks.
Oxley relinquished his licence at the
end of the 1975 season because of
rising costs.
