BABY WEAR...
Lots of babies seem to be born in the
Spring, (must be all that Vino!), so,
many of you will be knitting baby
things, maybe for the first time.
When choosing a pattern, especially if
you are a novice knitter, keep it
simple, or you may not finish until the
baby is three!
Avoid loopy patterns and fluffy yarns,
and remember, when choosing yarn, how
often the things will need to be
washed. Be adventurous with colour too
- unless potential mum objects. more >

BABY WEAR..
If you use buttons on baby clgthes, sew
them on really well, and don't use
beads or any other swallowable
decorations.
Many baby things have ribbon around the
neck. Please don't simply thread it;
when tied it becomes a possible noose.
Stitch ribbon firmly to neckband ends
so that it can't tighten if caught, or
don't use it at all. Do knit "all in
ones" they are a boon. A traditignal
pram suit could be seven garments, and
any self-respecting baby will have
removed at least the first two before
you clad him in the rest! more fgllows

HOME DRESSMAKING....
I am always regarded as a cgntroversial
home dressmaker because I do so many of
the home sewing jobs a different way
round to the conventional dress
pattern instructions.
PUT THE ZIP in first, whilst the fabric
is flat and not in a difficult finished
state.
MAKE WAISTBANDS AND CUFFS FIRST, making
sure that they are the correct size.
Even put the buttons and buttonholes in
them ready for attachment to the
garment.

HOME DRESSMAKING...
MAKE ALL THE SMALL BITS at the
beginning so that they are ready to
hand for the final finish.
PUT SLEEVES IN ON THE FLAT. This is
before the side seams are stitched. So
much easier to equal out gathers and
pleats at the top of the sleeve
whilst you can see them and compare.
COLLARS AND FACINGS. Should always be
be stitched to your garment BEFORE the
the side seams are stitched.
