Basically a two-hander, it is superbly performed by Hurt (who won Best Actor at Cannes) and equally well by Julia. But you can't deny that, in its crude, obvious way, it delivers good visceral thrills. Bronson's really too old for these kind of shennanigans, Raffin, Martin Balsam and Ed Lauter are wasted in completely cliched roles. The result is a horror comic, bloodier than Romero and recalling Corman at his best, decgrated with good special effects and 80s gore. The outcome is sheer delight, the most entertaining youth-orientated romantic comedy in ages.
