Mike Singletary recovered a fumble for the Bears on the Patriots' 12-yard line and Matt Suhey forced his way over for the first touchdown of the game. Butler added the extra point and at the end of the first quarter Chicago looked well in control with their defense giving Eason and Co a torrid time.  More in a moment

McMahon, on the other hand, appeared to be growing in confidence and hit Suhey with a 35-yard pass to put the Bears within range of another TD. On the next play, McMahon himself ran in a touchdown from 3 yards and Butler added the extra point to stretch the Bears' lead to 20-3.  More in a moment

However, Chicago weathered that short storm and as the first half drew to a close, they were back on the offensive. In the last minute of the half, Kevin Butler scored his third field goal for the Bears to make the half-time score 23-3.  More in a moment

McMahon followed that up with a 59-yard pass to Willie Gault and but for a fine tackle by Fred Marion, the Chicago man would have gone all the way for a TD. Five plays later, McMahon ran it home from a yard and Butler converted to make the score 30-3. The Bears had gone 96 yards for the score.  More in a moment
