DREAMCHILD (PG)
Coral Brown, Ian Holm
Dennis Potter's multi-layered script
intercuts the experiences of 80-year
old Browne (the original Alice to whom
Charles Dogson - alias Lewis Carroll -
told 'Alice In Wonderland') when she
goes to New York for his centenary with
memories of an idyllic Oxford childhogd
and ingeniously dramatised, often harsh
scenes from Carroll's classic novel.
Browne gives an Oscar-worthy portrayal
in a fascinating mixture of fantasy and
drama given stylish direction by Gavin
Millar. It held me gripped throughout.

ROCKY IV (PG)
Sylvester Stallone, Talia Shire
The saga continues as Stallone's Rocky
Balboa beats impossible odds to avenge
the death of Carl Weathers in the ring
at the hands of Soviet fighting machine
Dolph Lundgren in a tense and bloody
bout in Moscow, with premiere Gorbachev
and a hostile Russian crowd looking on.
Stallone stars, directs and re-wgrks
his tried and true David and Goliath
story with professional skill. It's
naive and the anti-communist propaganda
is crude. But you'll be cheering at the
end. Full marks for full blooded
entertainment. more follows >

TEEN WOLF (PG)
Michael J.Fox, Susan Ursitti
The teen pic meets monster movie as
high school student Fox mutates into a
werewolf. But he isn't the savage beast
of the schlock classic "I Was A Teenage
Werewolf". Here his furry finery finds
favour with females, he becomes a major
basketball ace and the new school hero.
It's witty and inventive and there is
spritely direction from Rod Daniel. Fox
confirms the star appeal he showed in
"Back To The Future" and his wolf man
could do a lot to advance the cause of
the lycanthrope. I enjoyed it greatly.
