Spectacular scenery and miles of golden
beaches that's the recipe for holiday
magic awaiting the visitor to
Yugoslavia, now firmly established as
one of the top destinations for the
British in Europe.
The last five years have seen the
number of tourists increase
dramatically, attracted by the
brilliant sunshine and rock-bottom
prices. Now it is a firm favourite with
all the family, helped by an exchange
rate which makes the country, pound for
pound, the best value in Europe.

With around 490 dinars to the £, the
cost of living in Yugoslavia is
extremely good value for the tourist. A
couple can eat out for about £4, with a
beer costing 25p and a bottle of wine
£1.50.
An extra bonus is the cheque system
operated by hotels. Spend your cash in
the hotel complex and you get an extra
10% on the exchange rate.
The standard of hotels vary, so it is
best to shop around. They get very
crowded in the peak season but, so far
have escaped the scourge of double
booking. more follows >

The three main holiday costal areas
are:
Istran Riviera
The most northerly of the tourist
regions, Istra offers a rich variety of
scenery and enjoyment. The Venetian
influence is strong here, but the
character of the towns and villages is
preserved by the hotels being built in
a bay close to the resort.
The main resorts are Porec, Rovinj and
Pula. Porec, overlooking Zelena Laguna
is the most comercialised, offering a
wide choice of two, three, or four star
hotels. more follows >

Istran Rivera (cont)
Rovinj is quieter, a peaceful fishing
village, and is ideal for those wanting
to take it easy.
The capital of the region is Pula, a
cosmopolitan town offering a splendid
day out for the sightseer and the
photographer.

Dalmatia and the Islands by Ian Wallace
The Dalmatian coast has seen
considerable development in recent
years, with modern hotel complexes
being built in the popular resorts of
Bograd, Vodice and Sibenik. This area
boasts one of the most spectacular
sights in Yugoslvia - the Krka
Waterfalls. Take a day trip to this
marvel and enjoy the thundering falls,
trout for lunch at an open-air
restaurant and a boat trip back to the
town of Sibenik.Off the coast of Split,
the islands of Havar and Brac are ideal
family resorts, especially in late May
and early June when the tempurature is
in the 70's. more follows >

Dubrovnik by Ian Wallace
The jewel of the Yugoslavia coast,
Dubrovnik is one of the country's most
popular destinations. The huge walls
of the medieval city are still intact,
housing a wealth of churches, squares
and monesteries: Modern hotels have
been built on wooded points and
secluded bays within easy walking
distance of the resort. The holiday
complex of Babin Kuk is just over a
mile away from Dubrovnik and, with
plenty of bars and restaurants and
facilities for the children, it is a
must for the whole family.Other resorts
nearby are Srebreno and Mlini on the
bay Zupa. more follows >
