Working for Wildlife in Suffolk
"Your countryside needs you" says a
a new campaign launched by the Suffolk
Trust for Nature Conservation, fgr
volunteers are needed to restgre and
maintain ponds, woods, heaths etc.
Anyone with spare time on their hands,
but particularly the unemployed, can
take part and there will be several
public meetings this month to explain
what is needed and where.

Hedge Laying
Why not learn a new skill? The Somerset
Trust for Nature Conservation has
organised a day of hedge laying at
Bottom Barn Farm, Hadspen (ST 658331),
on Sunday February 16.
If you'd like to join in just turn up
at the farm at 10.30am (if weather is
bad the event will be postponed until

Barnsley-Wakefield Midweek Volunteers
The Barnsley and Wakefield Midweek
Conservation Volunteers undertake all
sorts of tasks on Tuesdays and
Wednesdays in South Yorkshire.
Tasks include tree-planting, fencing,
and dry-stone walling, and the BWCVs
also organise social events such as
barn dances and day trips.
Volunteers are collected at 9.30am at
the Conservation Centre, 32 Bridge St,
Wakefield (Tues and Weds) and at 10am
at Barnsley Railway Stn Car Park on

Avocet Cruises with the RSPB
Why not join the Royal Society for the
Protection of Birds on one of their
special boat trips on Devon's Exe
estuary...
There you can see a marvellous variety
of wildfowl and waders, including 150
avocets. Cruises are on the 8th, 9th,
and 22nd of February.

Winter Birds at Vyrnwy
The Montgomery Trust Conservation
Volunteers will be holding a field
outing to do some birdwatching at
Lake Vyrnwy on February 8.
The outing will be led by the RSPB
warden, and you should be able to
see Goosanders coming to roost after
sunset.
Meet at 2pm outside Lake Vyrnwy
Information Centre. If you'd like

Small Woodlands Project in Bucks.
The Chiltern Society has now published
its second annual report outlining the
advice and assistance available to
woodland owners in the Chilterns.
The Small Woodlands Project uses its
Manpower Services Commission team to
help improve woodlands for amenity,
nature conservation and timber.
