10 from 6 by BAD COMPANY
When Punk decided to clean up the music
scene around '76/'77, BAD COMPANY and
their ilk were top of the deathlist.
With bloated bank balances and egos to
match, this group epitomised the out-
of-date, out-of-touch 'rockstar'
lifestyle so rightly despised (and back
today worse than ever).
But, as this compilation shows, the
group DID have its musical moments.

PAUL RODGERS' plaintive, bluesy vocals
had previously provided FREE with such
character, while guitarist MICK RALPHS
had played a major part within the
truly great MOTT THE HOOPLE. On early
Bad Company cuts such as 'Can't Get
Enough', 'Feel Like Making Love' and
'Ready For Love', both elements fuse
well, providing a genuine kick.
But the sparkle did not last. As the
band's success increased so the
inspiration diminished. By the time of
the third album ('Run With The Pack'),
both music and musicians were getting
old, fat and complacent. more >

The nadir was reached with the final
album, 'Rough Diamond' (1982), from
which the truly awful 'Electric Land'
is unwisely included here. Meandering
and soulless, the track is a prime
illustration of a band out of time.
Much of '10 from 6' is devoted to
Bad Company's early days, but still I
wonder who will buy it. Those
unacquainted with the group would be
far better off with either of the first
two albums, 'Bad Company or 'Straight
Shooter'. It's all you'll ever need to
know...
