Lakes and Mountains, history and
culture, sun and sand - Italy has got
the lot.
Culture vultures and sunseekers alike
won't fail to be captivated by the
romance and style of Italy. Italians
know how to enjoy themselves and with
their warmth and friendliness they
make sure you feel welcome.
In recent years Italy has fallen down
the tourism league - mainly due to
comparatively high prices. Magnificent
scenery and historic sites should more
than make up for that, though.

Sunseekers inevitably head for the
resorts around Venice, Rimini and
Naples.
The Venetian Riviera has some of the
best beaches on the Adriatic Coast
with the backdrop of Venice as an added
attraction. Further down the coast is
the Adriatic Riviera - with the
commercialised, packed beaches and
regimented rows of sunbeds and parasols
of Rimini, Riccione and Cattolica.
The Neapolitan Riviera on the other
coast offers a dramatic,cliffy contrast
with Vesuvius and Pompeii close at
hand. more follows >

Sightseeing is the major tourist
occupation of visitors to Italy. No
other country can boast such a wealth
of historic remains, art treasures and
glorious scenery.
The whole country is a living museum of
ancient civilisation and the cradle of
art. From Turin in the north to Sicily
in the south you can feel it. In
between there is the art of Florence,
the splendour of Rome and the romance
of Venice.
To the north there are spectacular
lakes - head south for unspoilt
country. more follows >

Rome is one of Europe's most vibrant
cities. Traffic jams are an incongruous
backdrop to ancient columns, ornate
fountains and spectacular ruins.
Venice - a gondola cruise may hit the
pocket but most tourists find it a must
It will cost you around £15 a head but
there is the much cheaper water bus!
Florence - home of some of the World's
great art treasures and architecture.
It houses some of humanity's most
inspiring creations - go there at
least once in a lifetime.

Food is a way of life to all Italians
with each region offering its own
specialities.
The special tourist menus tend to be
bland and unimaginative. You'll find
better value in a trattoria or pizzeria
rather than a restaurant.
Look out for cover charges - if it's
more than 2500 lira (around £1.25 a
head) it's expensive. A word of warning
- avoid pavement cafes - they are
very expensive. For more information:
