QUO VADIS?
Power, passion and intrigue are the
stuff of good TV entertainment, and
this week Channel 4 is offering
you three whole evenings of it!
Quo Vadis? is a six hour epic set in
the year 63AD and depicting some of the
most dramatic events in Roman history,
including the burning of the city, and
the massacre of the Christians.
Based on the best-seller by Herman
Sienkewicz this lavish production
features a truly international cast,
and was directed by Italian Francesco
Rossi.

QUO VADIS?
The impressive cast of Quo Vadis? is
led by Austrian actor Klaus Maria
Brandauer, who caused such a stir
with his impressive performance in the
film Mephisto (shown on C4).
Since Mephisto, Brandauer has gone from
strength to strength, starring in last
year's acclaimed Colonel Redl, and
opposite Meryl Streep in the Oscar
nominated Out of Africa.
Brandauer has the perfect, brooding
countenance to play Nero, smug, rash
and given to bouts of fiery temper.

QUO VADIS?
Max Von Sydow makes a rare appearance
as a goodie in Quo Vadis?, for he plays
the Apostle Peter, who has to face the
agonising decision whether to escape
or become a martyr for Christianity.
The part of Nero's favourite,Petronius,
is taken by American actor Frederic
Forrest, star of films such as One
From The Heart, Apocalypse Now and
Wim Wender's Hammett.
Other stars in Quo Vadis? include
Cristina Raines and Barbara de Rossi.
who appeared in last year's series
Octopus - Power of the Mafia on C4.

QUO VADIS?
Quo Vadis? was adapted for the screen
from Sienkewicz's epic novel by Ennio
de Concini, whose many credits include
Octopus - Power of the Mafia (which
will be repeated later this year on C4)
The English version was, in turn,
adapted by William Weaver and Robert
Holman, and it is the original English
language version which C4 will be
showing.
Quo Vadis? gets going tomorrow night
at 9.00, continuing on Wednesday and
Thursday. What could be better than to
stay in and watch the heat and passion
of Rome while it's so jolly cold here?
