MOTOR RACING ON 4
Many of you have written in asking
about our plans to transmit motor
racing - in particular the CART/Indycar
series.
If and when we have any positive news
we will let you know via this page but
at the moment our understanding is that
C4 does not plan to show motor racing
at least in the near future.

- my only complaint is that we don't
get enough coverage of it, unlike that
other SO-CALLED sport US Football.
"I realise that C4 caters for all
tastes but really I cannot understand
what anyone sees in this sport - there

AUSSIE FOOTBALL THE GRAND FINAL
In a re-run of '83 and '84 Grand Finals
the Bombers of Essendon once again
faced their arch rivals, The Hawthorn
Hawks.
Essendon, top of the league after the
regular 22 match season, had a smooth
passage to the final, beating Hawthorn
in the first semi-final 102-62 to
clinch their place.
Because of the elimination system
Hawthorn had another chance of making
the final when they faced Footscray in
last week's televised Preliminary Final

Hawthorn's late run in the Preliminary
Final saw off Footscray 109-99 setting
the stage for another confrontation
between arguably the best two teams in
the VFL over the past few years.
'83 champions Hawthorn drew first blood
in the match when a bad tackle against
Dermott Brereton gave him a kick at
goal to give his side an early lead
against the defending champions.
Moments later you might have been
forgiven for thinking you were watching
a boxing match...

AUSSIE FOOTBALL THE GRAND FINAL
By the end of the first quarter
favourites Essendon had opened a nine
point lead 40-31 extending it to 18
75-57 by half time.
Essendon continued to dominate the play
throughout the third quarter to leave
the Hawks trailing by over sixty points
by closing stages of the final quarter.
Undaunted by the hopelessness of the
situation however Hawk Dermott Breretgn
battled on to kick an eighth goal for a
place in the record books as the best
individual goal tally in a Grand Final.

Brereton's fine individual performance
did little to dampen the fervour of
the Bombers who maintained the
pressure in the final quarter.
Their fine attacking display helped
them to their second successive Grand
Final victory by a margin that even
their supporters could not
realistically have anticipated.
