HOARE RETIRES
JOCKEY QUITS AT 30
Richard Hoare, who partnered 1980
Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Master
Smudge, has retired from the saddle at
the age of 30.
Lack of rides and increasing weight led
to the West Country jockey handing in
his licence and he will now leave the
sport to start a garden furniture firm.
In two seasons Hoare has ridden only
three winners after struggling to find
decent mounts.
"It was a difficult decision to make,"
he said.
