FOR
MONDAY
There's a little yellow idol
to the north of Katmandu
and in the northern entrance
to the capital of Nepal
which the Queen visits today
is a shrine of Hanuman the monkey god
who, according to Hindu mythology,
transported a whole mountain-load
of healing herbs from the Himalayas
to help th wounded in battle.
Many today in our country
will turn to God in prayer
hoping for healing in time of illness.
Is there a difference between
such faith and the worship of an idol ?

The answer of local radio stations
to the question of the Lent Course
"What on Earth is the Church fgr ?"
may well be
"to let us know that after sport & sex
religion is well in the running
as a top interest subject
among our listeners."
Michael Meech in The Guardian
Responses will, he says, be numerous
"if the target is achieved
of a million people taking part"
This week the groups are starting
and reports from the radio stations
indicate that well over the million
have already signed up.
Some of the early responses follow >

WHAT DO YOU GET OUT OF
GOING INTO A CHURCH ?
- responses on Essex Radio last night:
- you get more involved
in voluntary and community wgrk.
- you're helped to pray for
and to care for the sick.
- you're enabled to stand up
for what you know is right.
- you find you are being built up
and so can help to strengthen others.
- God is concerned for the whole person
and the whole community.
- going to church means He begins
to use you as a channel of His love.
