MINI LONDON MARATHON
Youngsters keen on running needn't miss
out on the chance to join a major event
in London, despite the over 18
stipulation for the annual London
Marathon. The Mars London Mini-Marathon
has been arranged specially for them.
The Young Athletes 5k race round the
Serpentine, Hyde Park takes place this
weekend, Saturday February 22nd,
organised by the City of Westminster's
Leisure Services Department.
Runners aged 11-17 can enter in three
age-groups: 11-13; 14-15 and 16-17 year

THE MINI LONDON MARATHON
The first ten boys and girls in each
age group will go forward to be
selected for Westminster's team in the
Mini-Marathon, to be held on the
morning of the 1986 London Marathon
April 22 (also at Hyde Park).
London's boroughs can each send in ten
girls and ten boys; Westminster are
inviting youngsters from all over the
country to join their team.

The Youth Hostel Association also runs
courses geared to winter conditions
among their Friendly Face Weekends.Hill
walkers who explore the Lake District
in summer but are intimidated by the
thought of walking in ice can try it
out under expert tuition at Windermere.
March 14-16 is their next course (£38
for the weekend's board, tuition and
equipment hire) giving instruction in
winter mountaineering skills. This
includes ice axe & crampon techniques,
stepcutting, belaying, survival skills
