BOOK REVIEWS...
The book, "Glorious Knitting" by Kaffe
Fassett, published by Century, at
£14.95 contains over 30 patterns for
all manner of garments: jumpers,
skirts, scarves and slipovers.
It's a lovely coffee table book in
which the photography is superb. The
garments are made from the Rowan Yarns
Collection of 100% natural fibres in a
kaleidescopic colour range.
Lots of the garments are available from
Rowan in kit form. Address in the book.

Pssst! Want 443 stitch patterns in one
book? Then you need Shelagh
Hollingworth's Knitted Stitch Patterns
by Batsford at £12.50.
Each one is illustrated by rather fuzzy
photography in black and white only. A
useful modern reference work bringing
together lots of patterns, but lacking
a decent index.
A quicky for supermarket shoppers is
Family Circle's 60 Knitting Tips at 35p
A colourful little book full of really
useful hints and explanations. Good

THE RETURN OF THE "DUSTER COATS"...
It is very obvious now that this year
we are seeing the return of a Fashion
that I remember as "DUSTER COATS"...
presumably a corruption of Dust Coat,
which was an unlined easily washable
long coat, worn by the ladies of the
day when motor cars first arrived and
they wanted to protect their finery
from the dust of the roads.
(Note...I do N/T remember the first
cars. It was the early '40s when they
had another fashion fling, and here we
are again.) Long shirts, or coats,
unlined, oversized and looking good on
every fashion page I have seen.

THE RETURN OF THE DUSTER COAT...
They are so easy to make, with their
dropped shoulders and ample fit and the
choice of fabrics is tremendous.
I was looking at some beautiful fabric
with a cheese-cloth finish which was
in subtle apricot, pale green, ice
blue and sugar pink, very washable and
super with a summer tan.
