The 225-Issue Average gained 70.28 to close at 13,503.49, a new high, while the TSE Index of all listed stocks was up 2.55 at 1,074.72. HONG KONG The Hang Seng index closed 4.69 down at 1,742.37. SINGAPORE The exchange closed lower as buyers stayed away from the market. Top mining stocks led the way with the mining index closing 10.9 higher, and industrials also rose 8.2. Firmer base metals prices and falling interest rates in the USA were behind the rise in mining stocks. JOHANNESBURG Gold shares traded largely unchanged in a very slow start.
