'LAWSON TO LOAD
INDIRECT TAXES'
Petrol prices will rise by 15p a
gallon, cigarettes by 6p for 20 and
beer by 2p a pint, according to Budget
forecasts from brokers Phillips & Drew.
They predict that Chancellor Nigel
Lawson will raise indirect taxes by
more than the rate of inflation to
finance some cuts in income tax.
Overall they expect the giving and
taking to balance out to leave no net
boost to the economy.
The brokers also expect a £5 rise in
road duty, 8p on a bottle of wine and
25p on a bottle of spirits.
