■ The Wider Share Ownership Council is
calling on the Chancellor to change the
Capital Gains tax rules. They propose a
flat rate of 30% on gains made over 1
to 2 years, dwindling to nothing for
gains made over 7 years.
■ Anglia building society has increased
the interest rate on its Capital Plus
account to 10% net. The account is for
a minimum investment of £10,000.

■ Tunbridge Wells Equitable Friendly
Society has introduced a new 10-year
unit-linked savings plan called the
Bonus Bond ─ an adult version of the
recently withdrawn Baby Bond.
■ NEL Britannia has launched a Flexible
School Fees Plan which allows you to
borrow up to £50,000 using your house
as security. At 14.1% interest (APR),
the loan's intended to help with schogl
fees but the money can be used fgr any
purpose.

■ Animal insurers Pet Plan and
insurance company Ambassador Life have
together launched Pet Plan Financial
Services. The cheapest Pet Plan policy
costs a yearly £20.50 to insure against
vet's bills (caused by accident or ill-
ness) up to £250 a year.
■ Midland Bank has launched an experi-
mental electronic shopping system. The
Speedline network, which will operate
in shops and petrol stations, will
allow customers to pay for up to £200
of goods and service a week, direct
from their bank account.

■ National Westminster Bank is to
reorganise its branch network and
customer services, reducing the number
of outlets by about 100 by 1990.
■ Britain invested £770m in building
societies during January. A total of
£2,207 was loaned to homebuyers.
■ The Association of British Insurers
has announced a record year for the UK
life assurance industry in 1985.
Personal pension business did
particularly well with new annual
premiums of £445m (£301m in 1984).
