£58 TV LICENCE FEE TO STAY....
The Government is planning to retain
the £58 licence fee for a further year
while they continue consultations on
proposals to allow advertising on the
BBC.
The licence fee was fixed by the Home
Secretary, for a two year period in
1985, when the Peacock enquiry into the
possibility of advertising on the BBC
was also announced.
Now the two year period looks like
being extended to March 1988 and in the
meantime the BBC will have to accept
the £58 licence fee - £6 less per
year than they were demanding.

IN BRIEF:
■ The British Screen Advisory Council
are asking for a levy of 30p an hour on
blank tapes and 10% of the dealer price
on pre-recorded films with the proceeds
to go to a fund for the benefit of the
film industry. Such a tax could raise
up to £30 milion annually say the
council.
■ The Independant Broadcasting
Authority is to produce a set of
" commercials" warning parents to have
children in bed by 9pm as some TV
programmes are not suitable for family
viewing.
