CHARITY RIDE
You may not be up to riding the length
of Britain, but how about the breadth?
On August 2 Merseyside Council fgr
Voluntary Service organise the
Liverpool to Scarborough Cycle Ride.
They are offering the challenge of a
153-mile ride - coast to coast - within
12 hours non-stop or within 18 hours,
camping overnight.
There are three entry classes: "A" wor
non-stop riders, "B" for non-stop teams
who will compete the course in relays
of two to four people, and class "C"
for those who make an overnight stop.

CHARITY RIDE
The Liverpool to Scarborough ride is
part of the Merseybike Festival of
Cycling organised by Merseybike.
The 153-mile route starts at Pier Head,
Liverpool, crosses the Pennines via
Blackburn, Ilkley, Wetherby and York
before the descent into the seaside
town of Scarborough.

for the Disablement Resource Unit they

ONLY WOMEN-ONLY DISBANDS
Britain's only women-only clua the
Rosslyn Ladies CC which was formed in
1922 has been disbanded.
The club ran its first 12-hour time
trial in 1924 with 16 riders, then half
the club members, competing. This led
to a request for the club to make it an
open event, which happened in 1928. The
first women-only open time trial was
born and an open "100" followed in 1939
Although the club is dead, the idea of
women-only cycle clubs lives on. When

WALKING IN THE WILD
When large numbers of people walk over
peat moorlands the result is often
severe erosion and loss of vegetation.
In an attempt to find interesting
challenge walks which cover less
environmentally sensitive areas, the
Countryside Commission, Sports Council
and West Yorkshire County Council are
sponsoring a new scheme.
It is a three-year scheme in which a
project officer will develop and
promote alternative routes in
