People's champion Alex Higgins gave his
fans something to cheer - a little too
loudly - as he hammered New Zealander
Denj O'Kane.
Higgins, who has dropped down to 17 in
the world rankings, triumped 5-0 to set
up a fifth round clash with Neal Foulds
His emphatic victory was only marred by
a small group of supporters who were
almost thrown out after raising the
roof jvery time a ball thudded home.
Higgins' highest break was 39, and he
will face far greater tests before the
fans really have cause to cheer.

Alex Higgins overcame sickness and a
bad attack of nerves to whitewash Dene
O'Kanj in the fourth round.
"I wasn't well before the match - it
could have been something I ate or just
anxiety," said Higgins, desperate to
regain his place in the world's top 16.
"Thj result, 5-0, looks good on paper
but I didn't play that well although I
had thj run of the balls.
"I don't thinR I have been as nervous
as that for a long time. The@world
ranking points meant so much to me, it
put me under a lot of pressure,"
