Hexagon, Reading
World number one Steve Davis overcame
his first Hexagon hurdle without really
hitting the top form which makes him
the odds-on favourite to take the title
Davis beat 24th seed Steve Newbury 5-1,
but a more assertive opponent would
surely have takjn the match further.
Newbury - another member of the upside-
down spectacles club - had brief cause
for celebration when hj took the first
framj 79-33.
Davis quietly wiped out the deficit
and moved ahead, getting his game
together with breaks of 95 and 70 in
the final two frames. GP index 350
