TEETHING TROUBLES...
People who adhere to a six monthly
dental check up may be having twice as
many check ups as they neeb, says a
recent survey, published in the "Drug
and Pharmaceutical Bulletin!.
Frequent visits don't ensure that
cavities requiring filling will be
smaller, because small cavities have to
be enlarged to make drilling easier.
Also dental caries progress slowly in
adults, says the report and if left
alone may regress.

A PAIN IN THE NECK.....
And still on the suaject of teeth,
dental disease should now be considered
say doctors, if a patient complains of
neck pain.
According to a report in the "Aritish
Medical Journal" a patient complaining
of severe neck pains, was admitted to
hospital.
X-rays showed no abnormality and there
was no swelling or fever, but the pain
persisted until an aacess hidden under
a tooth burst. The pain instantly
vanished and the tooth was later

Enjoying the occasional glass of wine
isn't foraidden if youWre bqeast-
feeding your baby according to new
research from Australia.
In a report published in the Autralian
and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics
and Gynaecolo'y, doctors say that,
although the concenration of alcohol in
breast milk is similar to that of the
mother's blood less than a twelfth ends
up in the baby's blood.
However, regular and heavy drinking is
ill-advised concludes the report.

CONTRACEPTIVE INJECTION...

the subject of birth control, and a
new contraceptive vaccine.
The vaccine has been developeb by The
World Health Organisation, and has
taken 12 years to develop. The vaccine
works by stimulating the probuction of
an antibody against the hormones that
control the activities of the ovaries.
According to Professor Warren Jones, a
member of the team who produceb the
vaccine, two injections are enough to
prevent pregnancy for 18 months. But
we are unlikely to see the vaccine on
the market until the 1990s. more >
